VOICE wants to share the stories that motivate us with you. Check back each week and sit in on the interview corner with a new camper, counselors, teacher, or school owner. This week we are hearing from Reshma Lohia, owner of VOICE participating school Lohia’s LIttle Angels High School, and mentor to VOICE. Ms. Lohia has shown VOICE guidance, cultural awareness, wisdom, and friendship. We appreciate all she has done to advocate for VOICE!

Artwork by Beatrice Biira
Beatrice is the Outreach Coordinator for Millennium Promise (MP) and Connect To Learn (CTL). She mobilizes and energizes communities on behalf of global campaigns to end extreme poverty in our lifetime and educate girls and boys through high tech platforms.
Beatrice’s story began in a small village in rural Uganda with a gift of a goat through Heifer International. She put herself through primary school, paying her school fees with the money she earned by selling goat’s milk in her local market.
Beatrice is working toward her MA in Public Service from the Clinton School of Public Service (anticipated March ‘11), and holds a BA in International Development & Social Change from Connecticut College.
The success of Beatrice’s inspiring journey out of poverty is a testament to what’s possible if an investment in education is made. Her story has been profiled on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, and 60 Minutes.
Beatrice has been a champion of women’s development and empowerment for years, working for the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative and interning for then-Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Before joining Millennium Promise in August 2010, Beatrice promoted the work of Heifer International.
